The beautiful décor of Von Trier harkens back to a labor of love and unbridled enthusiasm of its caretakers to create a German establishment that is wholly unique and unforgettable.
Walking in through the front door through the wood and glass vestibule, one of the first things you'll notice is an expansive German mural occupying the space above the bar proper. Painted in the late 1970's by the late local Milwaukee artist Mike March, the mural can be found along with numerous other murals throughout Von Trier depicting scenes of German culture, the city of Trier, and landscapes of the German countryside…
…also found in the front room, and inarguably the most impressive piece of décor found in Von Trier, is the Cyril Colnik Chandelier; originally commissioned in the early 1890's by Captain Frederick Pabst, this wrought-iron and antler ironwork is a one-of-a-kind piece of art by one of the most famous ironworkers of his time, the legendary Cyril Colnik. You'll also notice the beautiful leaded glass windows imported from England in the 1950's.
Through the iron gates is the Bitburger Bier Stube. Adorned with stained glass from Germany, European mounts, antique beer steins, and impressive pieces of German artwork, this cozy and intimate setting is the perfect setting for group gatherings and parties.
Outside, Von Trier features a fabulous beer garden, triangular in shape with brick and wrought-iron walls covered in ivy and seasonal flowers. The unique design of this beer garden allows for a sense of tranquility far removed the hustle and bustle of everyday city life.
